About Dunamis
A centre built around the person, not the case file.
Clarity · Dignity · Recovery
Dunamis is the Greek word for power — the kind that is inherent rather than borrowed. It is the name we chose because it describes what we actually do. We do not give anyone strength they do not have; we create the conditions in which the strength they already carry can come back to the surface.
Dunamis Deaddiction & Psychiatric Care is a residential centre in Thirumal Nagar, Vilangudi, on the northern edge of Madurai. We treat alcohol and drug dependence, tobacco and smoking addiction, behavioural addictions, and the full range of psychiatric illness — from depression and anxiety through bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and the conditions of later life.
What distinguishes the centre is not equipment. It is the ordinary daily decision to treat a person in withdrawal as a patient and as an adult. No shouting. No restraint without clinical cause. No talking about someone in the third person while they are standing in the room.
Visit the Centre
To make competent, humane treatment for addiction and mental illness available to ordinary families in and around Madurai — and to send people home able to live, work and be trusted again.
Our Core Values
Compassion
Every person who walks in is already carrying shame. Adding to it has never cured anyone. We start from respect and work forward from there.
Integrity
Honest prognoses, honest costs, honest answers about what treatment can and cannot do. Families are told the truth even when it is not what they hoped to hear.
Excellence
Evidence-based psychiatry and addiction medicine, reviewed and updated. We would rather change our practice than defend it.
One plan, built for one person.
Medical first, always
Withdrawal from alcohol and some drugs can be dangerous. Detoxification happens under medical supervision with monitoring, never left to willpower.
Psychological work next
Individual counselling, group therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy address what the substance was being used to manage.
The family in parallel
Relatives are counselled alongside the patient. Most relapses are triggered at home, and most are preventable there too.
Then a long tail of aftercare
Monthly reviews, support-group meetings and an open helpline for at least a year after discharge. Recovery is measured in years, not weeks.
